Great receiver! by Anton B. Fedorov
Got it on amazon to build my home theater around it. Upscaling and upconversion rules. A little bit hard to control, but it definitely worth the money. Highly recommend to anybody. After all, do you REALLY need those 800$+ pieces of equipment?

HDMI problem by David Seelye
First I have to say this is a nice receiver/amp for a technical person. The amp allows you to re-map video to audio ports, it has plenty of ins and outs for connecting gear. Sound quality is grat and the auto setup feature does a good job of setting levels and EQ. The other settings are not accessed intuitively. The manual is not clear on how to access the units settings. Maybe it is just me but I had to read the same section 4 times and paw through manual to figure out how to access common settings.

The problem I am having is with the HDMI out. I have a 720×480 Samsung DVD-R connected to the component, and optical audio inputs on the amp. The amp is connected to my new 46″ Samsung 650 1080p 120hz HDTV. While watching, the image flashes between low and high brightness at varying rates between about 0.5 and 4 seconds. If I switch to component video on the amp, all the problems disappear. This is very annoying considering how great HDMI is supposed to be and how much I paid for the system

All evidence points to the Component to HDMI conversion in the amp. I will probably keep the amp in hopes that I can find a fix for this issue and keep using Component video until I get a blue-ray player.

Recommend you buy something else until Yamaha corrects this issue, or can tell folks how to avoid it in the settings.

Doesn’t pass BTB (blacker than black) HDMI video by Sanity Stream
Only AFTER I buy this do I discover the Yamaha “clips” the HDMI video signal — meaning it can’t do the full range of 0-255, instead clipping it to 16-235 and losing Blacker than Black and Whiter than White, which some TVs can handle. If you use a PS3, then you’ve seen the “Full” or “Limited” video option. This basically takes away the “Full” option. I think this is absurd and I can’t believe Yamaha has allowed it to happen. Other receivers from other manufacturers DO pass the full 0-255 video signal. But don’t just take my word for it, there are whole threads about this problem in places like AVSForum. Check them out before buying.

What a difference! by David N. Jorn
Originally purchased the Onkyo 705 and it sounded good for a while and then all of its issues came out. I plugged this Yamaha into the same setup and WOW! The sound that this Yamaha puts out is so clear. The Onkyo at its best is not even close. The onkyo needs 8 inches of space above the receiver in order to not burn up. I have less then 2 inches of space above this receiver and it still runs extremely cool. A Yamaha fan for life now!

I will never know how Amazing this device is because the CD would not even load. There is NO SUPPORT for this product on their website and the Support Phone Number provided in the box has a recording that says NO SUPPORT is provided at this number. You are then directed back to the website that doesn’t even mention this product. 3 strikes, your out! Back in Box!!

Even if it works out of the box you better hope you NEVER need support. Don’t bother!

GREAT ON MACBOOK PRO! by Feelgood
Very nice product. The picture is very clear, the sound is great, and depending on where you live, you will have good amount of HD channels (as well as analog channels). You can also hook it up directly to your cable jack but you will only get analog channels.

The HD Stick essentially turns your Mac into a DVR. You can pause live tv, record to your computer or external hard drive and even schedule recordings. The equipment is portable and i can carry it in my laptop bag without it looking bulky. The magnetic antennae base keeps it nice and stable (if you have somewhere metallic to place it). The remote control is compact and intuitive. The box also comes with an A/V input adapter if you want to capture video from your camcorder, game console or other personal media devices.

Is it really worth it? by Doug Walker
The Pinnacle for MAC HD Stick is a truly neat concept. I say concept because it does pull in both analog and HD terrestrial broadcasts and you can hook it up to your cable/SAT. I really don’t feel that the product is truly mature enough to cost what it does. While the hardware is nice it is extremely bulky (wide) and gets very hot. I actually attach it to a powered USB 2.0 fanout adapter so that I can keep the heat away from my MAC Pro Laptop and it is so wide that it I loose one of my USB ports on the fan out adapter. The software that comes with it is not easy to navigate around. The manual for the software is located on the products manufacture web site. It took me some time navigating around the menu layers to find the DVR playback menu. I find it disturbing that for the price I paid for this unit and I only get the “Lite” version of the software and If I want all the features I have to spend up to fifty dollars more.

The bottom line here is, you have to ask yourself how important is it to have HD on you laptop or other MAC? After buying this I question myself all the time about whether is was worth it or not. If it had more features I would say yes. But it reminds me too much of my Digidesigns Pro Tools software where you get the basics and if you really want it to work you need to spend even more to make the software actually useful.

Before you buy this make darn sure you really need it.. Otherwise I would pass… I bet there will be competition to this product.

Works quite well; should upgrade to full EyeTV by cpldc
Installing was quick and painless on my MBP. I had to download the latest EyeTV Lite package from the Pinnacle site since my computer is running Leopard, and used the included serial number to activate. The included antenna picked up all my local digital channels with ease. The card is wide but they thought ahead and included a small USB extension cable so that you don’t lose the adjacent port. EyeTV Lite, though, is a bit lacking on certain features. I couldn’t find a way to manually tune in a digital channel that wasn’t found during the scan and the deinterlacing on 1080i channels was disappointing at times. I upgraded to the full version of EyeTV 3.0, which also works perfectly with Leopard. The full version has a few deinterlacing options, allows manual tuning of digital channels and has some neat features such as remote scheduling through TitanTV.

I’ve been recording shows flawlessly. The quality is great and (at least with the full version; I didn’t try with Lite) editing out commercials for archiving is fairly easy.

The USB stick itself is the same as the Pinnacle PCTV Pro 800e, so if you download the drivers for that plus the free WatchHDTV program you can also use it with Windows, if you dual boot.

I recommend this product, though it seems Pinnacle has updated the PCTV Pro with a newer tuner chip for better reception and hopefully will update this product soon as well.

Works perfectly by J. Haas
Excellent conversion cable. Some HD projectors/TVs accept the composite signal via connector that looks like a VGA one from a PC. This allows you to come out of the DVD player or other video source using 3 component plugs and go to the VGA style input on the projector. Works great.

I have a HD compatible projector and this cable helped me connect my blu-ray to the projector and the picture quality is just great.

Does the job by H. Wu
Got this kit to wall-mount a Yamaha YSP-900 sound bar. Our installer had it up and mounted with no fuss. Very solidly built, and reassuringly solid metal mounting plates for the base and the speaker.
Order arrived quickly and in good shape. We’d use this vendor again.

What can one say about Japanese or German products? by Chandni S. Dani
Quality, reliable product. A bit pricey but quality shines through. Fortunately the Japanese and Germans still value customer service and satisfaction - a rare commodity to find these days in a nation of arbitrageurs.

Philips AmbiSound Home Theater Sound Bar with Integrated 1080p-Upscaling DVD/MP3 PlayerSometimes the quest for home surround sound is as ignominious as seeking the holy grail. Where do you place all those speakers? Do you have to reshape the room? Philips engineers have tackled that problem. They’ve managed to take the output from 5 distinct channel amplifiers and placed them in a single speaker called a Soundbar. Within the soundbar, speakers are angled to provide a realistic audio environment that literally emulates sound as if it’s coming from all sides. It’s 5.1 surround without the mess! In addition to the latest audio technology, the Ambisound system is only five inches thick and can be easily mounted onto a wall underneath an existing Flat-TV. The simple, yet elegant design enhances the décor of any home theater space, regardless of the room layout or design. The center console is designed to be mounted on a wall or resting on a stand.
For maximum audio quality and clarity, the Ambisound system features a 3-band equalizer and DoubleBASS deep bass performance, creating a smooth cross over between sounds. The speakers feature soft dome tweeters for increased clarity and clear voice performance and are designed for maximum efficiency for full midrange performance. Additionally, users will enjoy the Smart Surround feature, which automatically ensures correct surround sound settings whether a movie or music is playing. Though not exactly 5.1 channel sound, The HTS8100 uses a host of technologies including array processing, precise driver positioning and psycho-acoustic innovation to achieve the full surround sound performance that is 5.1 channel compatible. A Great Sound Bar by Fraser Veitch
To start, I have to say that this sound bar deserves a 5 star rating for it’s look alone. The fact that Philip’s has managed to pack a DVD player into it, is pure genius. So then why am I giving it a 4 star rating? A few small things really (Intruth, I’d give it a 4.5 if Amazon allowed 1/2 stars).

Included in the box is almost everything you’ll need for the install. The only thing missing? - an audio cable to run from your TV back to the sound bar so you can listen to your TV through the sound bar (if you’re using a digital receiver/satelite receiver, you’ll need to supply the audio cable to run back to the subwoofer because all of the 5.1 decoding is done in the sub). Wall braket, HDMI cable, MP3 line-in, Ipod dock with video out cable and AM/FM receivers all included. Set-up shouldn’t take you more than a half hour.

Once installed, DVD performance was excellent. The upconverted image (720p for my TV) is great, and the audio is crisp & clear. The simulated surround sound is very good and the sound field created is wide enough that at times things seem to be happening around you. The bass from the sub is present, but there are times when you may wish you could turn it up (which you can’t - the sub’s output is fixed. All you can do is turn up the volume to the whole system). But let’s remember, this isn’t meant to be your home theater - this is better suited to dress up & enhance your living room.

Now, music reprodution is the systems flaw in my ears (ha). Admittedly, I’m a bit of an audiophile when it comes to music, so most people probably wouldn’t notice this, but music seems to be slightly muddled from the sound bar. I found there were times that I couldn’t make out the individual instruments on some songs. Having said that, for my own use I have found that it works great as a music player for dinner parties or when friends stop by for drinks.

There is one slight design flaw as well. The plug in for the Ipod dock is located on the side of the sound bar instead of the back. This placement makes hiding the dock cable virtually impossible. When I’m not using the dock I unplug the cable and tuck it in the mounting braket to maintain the clean look (I buried all the cables in the wall, so this is important to me)

Overall though, this is a great system at a great price.

No Optical In? by Harry P. Salamander
I was excited about this unit but ended up returning it when I discovered it has no optical input. Both of my HDTVs pass-thru sound via an optical output and that’s really what I wanted from a unit. Next time I’ll do a better job reading the specs!

Satisfied Customer by R. F. Hornak
My goal was to purchase a good quailty sound system without having to wire up 5 to seven speakers. I looked at Denon systems and Bose systems and decided on the Philips for price and the fact that I purchased a Philips 42 inch LCD TV and the Philips Ambisound mates up nicely with the TV.

Easy to wire. Easy to set up.

I was not expecting theater like surround sound experience from the Ambisound but this product comes close. I can turn up the volume and bass thru the subwoofer and drive the rest of the family out of the house with it. The sound quality is very good on TV, CD and DVD. The disc player works well and I like the the way the player cover slides open for disc loading. You can’t tell that there is a CD/DVD player in the speaker bar when the cover is closed.

The Ambisound looks good and the controls integrate nicely with the Philips TV it is hooked too. It comes with an iPod dock (this is an extra with the Denon system)so you can listen/watch to your iPod music/video library through it.

I am happy I purchased this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality two piece (speaker bar and subwoofer) system.

Video Noise in 1080p by ASG
Be careful buying this product if you expect to upconvert to 1080p resolution. There is a discussion thread concerning this in the discussion area so check it out. Essentially you get significant video noise in the form of green vertical lines in 1080p. Frankly, the more I read the more I suspect that most people simply haven’t tried 1080p and thus haven’t encountered this yet. Or they don’t have a 1080p capable TV. Could be wrong about that but I do know that Philips has their head in the sand when it comes to this problem and their customer service (if you can even call it that) is horrible. Too bad because the unit is a good idea, looks great, and otherwise functions as advertised. I’d wait until another company with a clue comes out with something similar in Blue Ray.

Good subwoofer, but not much of a Surround experience by Philipp
The Surround sound experience is somewhat ambiguous, there are moments during a movie where you are indeed tricked into thinking you are hearing sound effects from the side or behind, but 90% of the time you won’t.
In addition, just having one digital input (and co-ax!) seems a bit outdated to me. And what’s the idea behind having it in the subwoofer rather than the main bar, where all the other plugs are?

However, the set-up is really easy and I don’t miss all the wires my previous 5.1-system had at all! And the design is very sleek, too.

All in all, you get an audio system that is much less “invasive” in your living room, but you pay with a fairly limited Surround experience.

Well worth the money by Mike D.
HDMI cable for this cheap, and it works! That’s really all you need to know about this product. Shipping took a while, sadly, so don’t order this if you need it tomorrow. Sadly, if you do need it tomorrow, you’ll wind up paying about ten times this price for exactly the same product at a local store. No joke. If you can even find one this long at a local store (which is rare).

Don’t listen to people who whine about signal quality, wire gauge size, lossy conductors, etc. This is *digital* - it either works or it don’t. This one works just fine with my upconverting DVD player, my Xbox 360, and my HD cable box. It all looks perfect. While its technically not rated for in-wall runs, it works just fine inside a wall or hanging out in the back of your system.

I recommend you buy several of these before you need them. Have them lying around. You will eventually need them anyway, and wouldn’t you rather pay half of the retail of ONE cable and get 5-6 cables instead? I promise that the first time a neighbor or friend or coworker asks and you just hand them this, it’ll be well worth the few bucks.

Best I’ve ever owned by J. Prusak
This is my first and only HDTV. I do have to say it is by far the best I have ever owned. I normally buy high end TV’s and this is certainly one. Picture quality is great, and the user friendliness is easy.

Exceeded All My Expectations by C. Brooks
Sharps AQUOS LC32GP3U exceeded all my expectations. After an intense education process about HD TV’s. I knew I wanted a good picture (even with an antenna only) along with enough hookups and choice in hookups for my VHS, DVD, Games, etc.. Sharp really accommodated my main concerns without buying added equipment or cables for what I already had. This LCD really accommodates every hook up possible except DVI, the newer upgrade to HDMIx3 was not needed for my use because I’m not using this as a computer monitor. The ability to hook this up to a computer and use it for on-line use was also an appealing option. The swiveling base as also a nice feature as well as the slim design and extra side hookups for easy access for games camcorders etc. From the moment I pulled this out of the box to full set up it took less than twenty minutes. Very easy to work and I didn’t need to rely on the manual or a professional to install my TV, as a single female I didn’t need a strong man to pick it up for me either. I highly recommend this TV and may even purchase another one for my sons games. The only draw back is watching VHS, which is not set up for HD quality. Even liked the analog stations, but not as well as the HD. I am not disappointed at all.

I like it. by Baron
This is my first HDTV. I bought this TV to replace my old SDTV and my fairly new dell monitor. The game options also peaked my interest. As a computer monitor it has met all expectations. I have large space to work with and everything looks great. I haven’t played many games yet but I haven’t seen any ghosting in TF2, Vampire: TM, or Audiosurf. Be sure to set the view mode to Dot to Dot when using this as a monitor, it looks best that way.

I have my WII, PS3, and PS2 hooked up also. WII and PS2 games look just as good as they did on the SDTV. I am only using the PS3 as bluray player/dvd upscaler at the moment. Bluray looks great and DVDs look a lot better than they did on SDTV.

Over the air HD looks great. SD over cable looks good to unwatchable depending on which channel I watching. Unfortunately the channels I want most are not offered in HD yet by comcast. The scifi channel is extremely bad and is the channel I care about the most. I might cancel my cable until they have HD for it. There is no SD channel that looks better than it did on my SDTV. You will want to keep this in mind if you are watching mostly SD.

The best thing about this TV is it has inputs up the wazzu. No need to buy a $50 to $100 hdmi switch box with this tv. Note also the component inputs are 1080p as well.

The bad thing about this monitor is that there is no DVI input. I am using a dvi to hdmi cable for the computer. This is the only way to get the resolution I want. Another poor point is the way you change inputs. They way it is setup makes using a universal remote hard. They didn’t include a separate button for each input. Instead you have the cycle through to the one you want. There is no way for a universal remote to know which input you are currently on so you can not setup a macro to switch to different devices because the remote will never know how long to cycle through inputs to get to the device you want. If each button input had a button assigned to it using a universal remote would be easy. Minor problem but enough to take off a star for me.

One more thing that is bad about this tv. There is no Picture in Picture or Picture Beside Picture. Given all they packed into this TV I find this odd to leave off.

Even with the problems I think this is a great TV. No ghosting or banding. No dead pixels. Just the right sized for my small apartment. Not perfect but darn close.

Excellent LCT TV by S. Yezril
The only drawback is high price, but SHARP LC-32GP3U has the best picture and sound quality of any 32″ LCD TV currently on the market. 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution works great as PC monitor using DVI-to-HDMI cable. Very slick design. No regrets.

Nice HDMI Cable by D. Johnson
This cable does exactly as promised. The length was perfect for running a cable from my ceiling mounted Mitsubishi HC3000u projector to my dvd player. It fit perfectly!!

The shipper was great to work with, and the cable arrived cross-country very quickly!! I would buy from them again!

Sweet Buy by Falkingood
This TV has a beautiful picture. I bought a Samsung because the vividness of color was unmatched in the sets I looked at. My only regret is that I mounted it above my fireplace and wish it was a 46″ or 50″. A TV a bit larger would have been nicer there. At this point though for $899 I couldn’t go wrong. This will probably end up in the gameroom as I replace my tubes one by one. Nice buy!

Gets 5 due to price by John Grace
For the price, at the time of purchase, you couldn’t beat this TV. Delivered to your door, and taken out of the box which also is a big plus.

The TV is large, the image is crisp and clear, bottomline is that it works. If you’ve been reading TONS you’ll notice that there are some slightly brighter screens that produce deeper blacks etc. So yes, you CAN get a slightly better image but at a much higher price. I’ve had it for several weeks now and have never said, “oh, that black isn’t as deep as I want”. Fantastic product.

Great Value by Mary S. Venable
I bought this for my 84 year old very techno Mother just days ago. I recently bought a Sony XBR4 52″ from amazon with the white glove delivery and everything was perfect. This crew was not so great but we adapted and the TV set was really great despite the delivery crew. I would highly recommend this set. The 40″ set really does not have to be 1080P, esp. since cable cannot deliver anything in HD this set can not receive. If you go to a 46″ set; you definitely need to go to 1080P. Buy this set! Mom has this in her living room and absolutely loves it!

Great TV. Great Price by Zack
I wasn’t really planning to purchase a TV for another six months, but I happened across this model at 900 bucks on Amazon and decided to pull the trigger. For a 40 inch TV, 1080p is unnecessary.

I knew I wanted one of the Name Brand (Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, Sharp, LG) TVs because of some poor experiences my friends have had with other brands like Vizio and Dynex.

And while this is the older entry-level model from Samsung, the major differences (in addition to 720p vs 1080p) between this model and the more expensive ones largely came down to one fewer HDMI inputs (2 vs. 3), a lower contrast ratio that is still good enough to clearly distinguish many shades of black in a brightly lit room, and a slower refresh rate that might matter if I were playing a fast-paced video game, but hasn’t been noticeable at all for watching TV (including sports) and movies.

All in all, for a price that comes in 30% or more below similar sets, I couldn’t be happier.

Everything you can ask for by Ranga Kalakuntla
This TV is amazing and is a good deal for the price.
Eventhough its advertised as 720p it can go upto 1080i.
Picture Quality and Sound quality are excellent.
TV looks really cool.
It has all the ports you can ask for.
Shipping took about 6 days but for free shipping i think that was fast enough.
