Best HD stick for a mac works with the indoor antenna if you are living off the signal tower prefer an external antenna for better clarity and more channels
Installation CD would not load - No supoort by denbren
I will never know how Amazing this device is because the CD would not even load. There is NO SUPPORT for this product on their website and the Support Phone Number provided in the box has a recording that says NO SUPPORT is provided at this number. You are then directed back to the website that doesn’t even mention this product. 3 strikes, your out! Back in Box!!
Even if it works out of the box you better hope you NEVER need support. Don’t bother!
GREAT ON MACBOOK PRO! by Feelgood
Very nice product. The picture is very clear, the sound is great, and depending on where you live, you will have good amount of HD channels (as well as analog channels). You can also hook it up directly to your cable jack but you will only get analog channels.
The HD Stick essentially turns your Mac into a DVR. You can pause live tv, record to your computer or external hard drive and even schedule recordings. The equipment is portable and i can carry it in my laptop bag without it looking bulky. The magnetic antennae base keeps it nice and stable (if you have somewhere metallic to place it). The remote control is compact and intuitive. The box also comes with an A/V input adapter if you want to capture video from your camcorder, game console or other personal media devices.
Is it really worth it? by Doug Walker
The Pinnacle for MAC HD Stick is a truly neat concept. I say concept because it does pull in both analog and HD terrestrial broadcasts and you can hook it up to your cable/SAT. I really don’t feel that the product is truly mature enough to cost what it does. While the hardware is nice it is extremely bulky (wide) and gets very hot. I actually attach it to a powered USB 2.0 fanout adapter so that I can keep the heat away from my MAC Pro Laptop and it is so wide that it I loose one of my USB ports on the fan out adapter. The software that comes with it is not easy to navigate around. The manual for the software is located on the products manufacture web site. It took me some time navigating around the menu layers to find the DVR playback menu. I find it disturbing that for the price I paid for this unit and I only get the “Lite” version of the software and If I want all the features I have to spend up to fifty dollars more.
The bottom line here is, you have to ask yourself how important is it to have HD on you laptop or other MAC? After buying this I question myself all the time about whether is was worth it or not. If it had more features I would say yes. But it reminds me too much of my Digidesigns Pro Tools software where you get the basics and if you really want it to work you need to spend even more to make the software actually useful.
Before you buy this make darn sure you really need it.. Otherwise I would pass… I bet there will be competition to this product.
Works quite well; should upgrade to full EyeTV by cpldc
Installing was quick and painless on my MBP. I had to download the latest EyeTV Lite package from the Pinnacle site since my computer is running Leopard, and used the included serial number to activate. The included antenna picked up all my local digital channels with ease. The card is wide but they thought ahead and included a small USB extension cable so that you don’t lose the adjacent port. EyeTV Lite, though, is a bit lacking on certain features. I couldn’t find a way to manually tune in a digital channel that wasn’t found during the scan and the deinterlacing on 1080i channels was disappointing at times. I upgraded to the full version of EyeTV 3.0, which also works perfectly with Leopard. The full version has a few deinterlacing options, allows manual tuning of digital channels and has some neat features such as remote scheduling through TitanTV.
I’ve been recording shows flawlessly. The quality is great and (at least with the full version; I didn’t try with Lite) editing out commercials for archiving is fairly easy.
The USB stick itself is the same as the Pinnacle PCTV Pro 800e, so if you download the drivers for that plus the free WatchHDTV program you can also use it with Windows, if you dual boot.
I recommend this product, though it seems Pinnacle has updated the PCTV Pro with a newer tuner chip for better reception and hopefully will update this product soon as well.
